I went out yesterday to retrieve the two eggs laid by Veggie and Mushroom just to find that indeed Tomato had laid too. I guess she didn't know where to lay before when she was trying out the nesting box etc. and must've seen the eggs and figured thats where she should lay. Then later, Chili laid her Silkie egg, and then Cheese laid in the feed bowl so 5 eggs in one day...woohoo!!! Now, if only Portabella would start...I'm waiting.
So, here's a picture of all the eggs I had yesterday...my old co-worker is gonna come by Thursday for his eggs. He wasn't able to come before Thanksgiving so now I'll give him all brown eggs instead of some brown and some white. He'll get all of the RIR eggs.Yesterday I picked up some feed, wild bird seed and scratch for the chickens. We brought it home and then Lea had to get into the run to fix this tarp part. See I only have one nosey neighbor left and he is the main one that goes out of his way to mess with us...like calling the city about some leaves etc. He keeps trying to see what we're doing and he tries to see through his yard, the now empty yard of the old evil neighbor-(his friend)- that moved, and when he's walking his daughter and dog to the bus stop he tries to see through two other gates into our yard. I've seen him on several occasions trying to see. So, we put up a tarp by the gate but there was apart that didn't cover the area so Lea had to go in and pull the tarp so this nosey evil neighbor couldn't try his darnest to see through.
We then went to the thrift store because Lea has grown again and didn't have any winter clothes...I think I explained before that the thrift stores here in my part of Michigan are very high. They're not the price of say Walmart but they are still very high. I remember living in Colorado and I could get clothes for .99 cents...here it's like $3.99-$10.99 and up. I got her some shoes because her shoes were talking, some pants, and long sleeves shirts and it came to $70-Yes, $70 at the thrift store...not as bad as when I spent $120 this summer for summer clothes at the thrift store. But despite the tag sale being 50% off for the blug tags only, I am never that lucky. I got her a jogging outfit for $10.99 as well as shirts and pants for $5.99 etc. I still need to get her more but I will have to go with my mom for Senior day when she'll get some discounts. Goodness...you go to the thrift store for deals...oh well, she's not in Kids sizes so gotta just buy what fits and looks nice. I did pickup a brandnew gift for my friend and a cow Christmas decoration and a purse for myself.
I had promised to buy Lea one big gift for Xmas and she would get smaller gifts and it wouldn't be that many this year because everything costs so much esp. at her age with all the electronic stuff. I am still missing that one big gift. I'm at a lost. I had shopped early and got everything else out of the way except this one thing...soI hope I can think of something soon...she's only getting three gifts from me altogether...we're trimming down this year. So, gotta figure it out...maybe an I-Tunes card and something else...we'll see.
Anyway...gotta a few things to do today other than that, I'm staying in and watching the X-Files.

Patrice, I meant to ask you before... do you have a light in your coop? Ours broke and we haven't replaced it yet. Today is frigid & windy, so I haven't let the girls out, and it felt pretty warm inside. Just curious if I should get a light to help them lay better? They were born on 9/13/08 so not old enough to lay yet. Thanks for any advice! I know you live in a colder climate than I do!
I have a light in the coop, I have it on 24 hrs though some people say thats not a good ideal, but mine are used to it so they do go to sleep and I don't have it pointed in their faces but down so they can still rest. The reason I have it on 24 hrs is because if I don't get home in time or I forget, the light is already on. If I had a timer it would be easier but I have the cord coming into my house with a shock blocker and mine washing machine is plugged into the shock blaster too so I'll leave it alone for now. I think it helps with egg production. I know there are people that are against using lights but with it getting dark here at 5 o'oclock, it helps them regulate themselves...I put them up by 6 and they are still up, eating, etc. and even laying eggs while the light is on and when they want to sleep they do. I got five eggs yesterday, so I personally think it works for them. The babies too have two lights for heat. It also helps with keeping both the hens and babies water from freezing. So, I would recommend it. My egg production hasn't slowed down at all.
I like the names of your chickens!
Big gift.... what about an instrument with lessons. That is what Luke is getting as his big gift.
I am so excited for you!! 5! my girls better get after it!
Sweethearts, it took 5-7 months before they got there...then after a 5 day egg day we had a one egg day yesterday...oh well.
Countrygirl...maybe dance lessons would be good since she isn't into musical lessons though she is in choir at school. Thanks for the ideal!
